Economy :
Slovakia has already overcome most of the difficult transition from a centrally
planned economics to a modern market economics. In 2001 the government had
significant progress in macroeconomic stabilization and structural
reforms. Mostly completed privatisation, the banking sector is almost
completely in the hands of foreign financial companies, and foreign
investment is growing. Exchange rate of Slovak koruna is stable and slowly but
steadily lowered against the American dollar. Between 1999 and 2006 the
value of the American dollar against the Slovak crown has doubled. The
recovery of domestic demand in 2002. ,partly thanks to the increase of
income, offset the slower growth of exports, helping the economy to grow
steadily. Unemployment reached at the end of 2001, 19.8% in 2003,
significantly reduced. Currently, the Slovak economy is one of the most
stable in the countries of Eastern Europe, and is becoming more
attractive to foreign investors.
